Fitness-to-work software: know who is cleared to work, at every site

Track medical certificates for each worker, with expiry alerts, so teams know who needs a check and who is cleared to work. The fitness-to-work outcome is shared with HR, HSE and managers, while the medical basis stays confidential.

What fitness-to-work software does

A fitness-to-work assessment, also called a fitness for duty assessment, decides whether a worker's health lets them do a specific job safely, without danger to their own health or that of others. The outcome is a conclusion about the worker and the job, not a diagnosis. Fitness-to-work software keeps those assessments, their decisions and how long they are valid for every worker, and shows each team only what it needs.

  1. 01

Set the standard for each role

Each role carries its own medical requirements, set by its tasks and hazards, such as offshore work, diving or driving.

  2. 02

    Assess before assignment

A pre-placement assessment checks fitness for the specific role before the worker starts it, or before a move into a role with new hazards. In the US, the ADA does not allow medical exams before a job offer; after a conditional offer, they are allowed if all entering employees in the same job category take them.

  3. 03

Reassess at intervals and after absence

Periodic assessments keep the decision current during hazardous work. After sickness absence or injury, a return-to-work assessment reviews whether and how the worker can come back.

  4. 04

    Record the decision

The outcome states whether the worker is fit for the role, fit with restrictions or unfit, temporarily or permanently.

  5. 05

Share the outcome, not the medical details

Managers, HR and safety teams need the decision and any restrictions, not the diagnosis. For exams prescribed for work with a particular hazard, the ILO's Occupational Health Services Recommendation (No. 171) says the conclusions given to the employer should contain no information of a medical nature.

  6. 06

    Connect it to surveillance

Fitness decisions often follow health surveillance: a change found at a periodic exam can lead to a restriction or a new assessment.

Assessment points and outcomes: ILO Recommendation No. 171, paragraphs 11 and 16. US exams: EEOC enforcement guidance under the ADA.

How MyC runs fitness-to-work

Fitness-to-work decisions, certificates and restrictions stay in one health record per worker, and each role sees what it needs.

Medical certificates with expiry alerts

Track medical certificates for each worker. Get expiry alerts so teams know who needs a check and who is cleared to work.

Exams, vaccinations and certificates in one record

Keep pre-employment medical exams, results, vaccinations and certificates in each worker's record. Health professionals can refer to earlier findings throughout the worker's service.

The decision, without the medical basis

The outcome, such as fitness-to-work, is shared with HR, HSE and managers, while the medical basis stays confidential.

Restrictions by role and site

HSE sees fitness and work restrictions by role and site, assessments coming due, and which cases are work-related, without the clinical details.

Rules and certificate formats per site

Set fitness-to-work rules, certificate formats and reporting periods for each site. The MyC team configures the platform around your processes during setup.

Employees and contractors, synced with HR

Contractors and employees use the same health record, work clearance rules and reporting. Identity, site, role and contract type come from your HRIS, such as SAP or Workday.

See the health signals you need for your role

Medical details stay confidential. Each role sees the information appropriate to its responsibilities.

What is fitness-to-work software?
Fitness-to-work software, also called fitness for duty software, records each worker's fitness assessments and shares the decision with the people who need it. In MyC, medical certificates are tracked for each worker with expiry alerts, and the outcome is shared with HR, HSE and managers, while the medical basis stays confidential.
Who can see fitness-to-work decisions?
Access is based on each person's role. Authorized health professionals work in the full medical record. HSE, HR and managers see only what their responsibilities require, such as fitness decisions and work restrictions, without medical details. Every access is logged.
Can we track pre-employment exams and medical certificates?
Yes. Keep medical exam results, vaccinations and certificates in each worker's record. Track expiry dates and get alerts so teams know who needs a check. Health professionals can refer to earlier findings throughout the worker's service.
Can we set different fitness-to-work rules for each site?
Yes. Set fitness-to-work rules, certificate formats and reporting periods for each site. The MyC team configures the platform around your processes during setup.
Does MyC cover contractors as well as employees?
Yes. Contractors and employees use the same health record system, work clearance rules and reporting. Their records follow them between sites. Teams can check assessments and decisions in one place.
Can workers answer health questionnaires before an assessment?
Yes. In the employee portal, workers can answer questionnaires before a visit, upload documents and exchange messages with health professionals.
